A well-established facial procedure to promote healthier skin

Chemical peels can deliver significant rejuvenating effects on the skin. They are used to remove damaged skin cells through a chemical solution applied to the skin, giving a controlled reaction and deeply exfoliating to reveal healthier skin.

Chemical Peels

What can chemical peels be used for?

  • Tightening and levelling the skin
  • Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Softening and improving the appearance of scars
  • Creating smoother, glowing skin with even pigmentation

How does a chemical peel work?

Skin is composed of two layers – the epidermis (top layer) and the dermis (bottom layer). Fine lines, wrinkles and scars cause imperfections in your skin and can involve either layer. As a skin-resurfacing procedure, chemical peels penetrate your skin down to different levels, depending on the strength of the peel. They loosen and remove the dead surface layers of the skin, exfoliating and smoothing and helping it appear healthier. After the chemical peel, your skin begins to regenerate the removed layers, improving appearance, elasticity and texture with collagen and elastin stimulation.

At Chiswick Dental, we use the NeoStrata® ProSystem, which uses a combination of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) which are naturally occurring ‘fruit acids’. Glycolic acid is found naturally in sugar cane, citric acid in citrus fruits and mandelic acid in almonds. The peels are therefore non-toxic and used for superficial peeling of the skin.

Initial Consultation

Before your first chemical peel appointment, we will conduct a thorough assessment of your skin and create a bespoke treatment plan tailored to you. We will also give you a product containing glycolic acid to use at home for two weeks prior to the procedure, preparing your skin and evaluating your compatibility with AHAs.

Chemical Peel Appointment

At your first appointment, we will apply a high concentration of AHA to your skin for a short amount of time, before chemically neutralising it to conclude the treatment. This helps remove the damaged layer of surface skin cells, encouraging anti-aging effects in the deeper skin layers by stimulating cell turnover. The procedure lasts around an hour, with no anaesthetic required.

Further Treatments

In most cases, we recommend between 4-6 peels, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to see the most noticeable improvements.

Aftercare

You will usually be able to return to your normal daily activities as quickly as a few hours post-treatment, and certainly within a couple of days. With regular maintenance, chemical peels can give ongoing results and can enhance and maintain the outcomes of other treatments too.
